Four juniors recognized for ouststanding sportsmanship

HOUSTON (April 18, 2007)–Four junior players received sportsmanship awards at the Gallery Furniture Houston Open Super Championship Junior event.

Georgiana Smyser, Houston, and Michael Lugar, Georgetown, received the Houston Tennis Association/Gallery Furniture Open Sportsmanship awards. Both competed in the super championship age 18 divisions.

Smyser, a senior at the Kinkaid School, will attend and play tennis for Dartmouth College in the fall.

The USTA Texas Section recognized Tara Eckel, Dallas, who played in the super championship girls 18s, as the Nancy Jeffett Sportsmanship Award winner and Josh Norsworthy, Frisco, competing in the super championship boys 16 division, as the Clarence Mabry Sportsmanship Award winner.

The Houston Tennis Association promotes and supports the growth of tennis in the Greater Houston area in order to provide the city’s diverse population with avenues to develop a healthy physical lifestyle, enjoyable social interaction, educational opportunities, increased self esteem and valuable life skills.
