Board of Directors HTA is a 501(C)(3) not for profit Community Tennis Association serving the Greater Houston area since 1952. The HTA: * encourages and promotes amateur tennis in the Greater Houston Metropolitan area for all members of our community regardless of age, gender, disability or level of play * encourages and promotes good health and sportsmanship through the game of tennis * is a tennis information source for its members and the general public, through brochures at all private and public tennis facilities, as well as, the comprehensive HTA Web site and links to local, state and national websites * awards scholarships to Houston needy area high school graduating seniors who have been involved with tennis who demonstrate a commitment to tennis, academics and community service * is in partnership with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department to support the free year-round National Junior tennis League (NJTL program, an introductory tennis program held at neighborhood recreation centers and parks which reaches thousands of boys and girls who may not otherwise be able to participate in the game of tennis. * is affiliated with and in good standing with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and was named the state's outstanding Community Tennis Association in 1996 and the best overall organization (the Umbrella Award) in 2002 & 2006 by the USTA Texas Section * Collaborates with Special Olympics to deliver introductory and ongoing tennis programs. The HTA volunteers also assist in running the Regional Spring Games in preparation for the Special Olympics Summer Games. * Collaborates with TIRR Hospital, USTA, Blaze Sports and The Houston Wheelchair Tennis Association to conduct Run/Roll events offering integrated tennis programs to physically challenged athletes. Run/Roll events team up wheelchair and able body players in a league and tournament format * Raises funds through the Houston Tennis Association Tennis and Education Foundation to promote tennis and education opportunities for Houston area youth * Collaborates with large area corporations and business to deliver high quality programs in the Greater Houston area including Coca Cola, Hewlett Packard, Gallery Furniture and more * Collaborates with local and international professional tennis teaching organizations to help certify local area tennis pros and address the needs of the teaching profession * Works with several other local community tennis associations to support USTA Junior Team Tennis, a recreational and competitive weekly tennis league for beginners through advanced players, serving all major geographic areas of the greater Houston . |
